so it is just another tragedy to hit many our co-workers. >> no one would hope for this to happen. the situations are very difficult. we see this every day as paramedics but it is not...it is not something we would expect to see happen to us. >> oakland police are still in need of any additional witnesses who can offer up tips to them as they continue the manhunt for the shooter or shooters and search for a motive. reporting live from san jose for abc7 news. >> developing news, napa police have identified a man who was shot and wounded by an officer during an altercation last night. the 37-year-old ramirez is hospitalize with a gun wounds to the chest. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has more on what led up to the shooting live at the sheriff's office. >> the suspect was severely wounded but is expected to

survive. the sheriff says that the napa police officer fired on the suspect when he tried to make an arrest. >> i was in the restaurant eating and all of a sudden we heard the ambulance come by. >> frank was having dinner at the diner on tuesday when a gunshot was heard. suddenly, police converged on a parking lot across from the home depot. they had this intersection blocked off. that was blocked off. blocked off down there. >> napa county undercover narcotics team was watching a car with three men inside. that included 37-year-old suspect ramirez. >> they approached the vehicle to arrest the suspect with the warrant for violation of probation on assault with a deadly weapon case. a struggle ensued between one of the officers and the suspect. the shot was tired. >> a napa police officer shot ramirez once in the chest. he was taken to the hospital. the officer placed on leave.

the sheriff says that ramirez was wanted on a probation violation after trying to kill his wife with a 7" knife. the shooting has left frank rattled and has napa has changed. >> when i was a kid growing up here you could go to bed at night with your front doors opened and unlock. you could it is on your porch at night. now you are -- it is not safe for people to walk around the streets for fear someone will get mugged or robbed or shot. >> the napa county sheriff investigating the police officer involved who was not hurt. ramirez is expected to survive but could face new charges of assault on a police officer. we are live in napa for abc7 news. >> an update to a story we have fold all morning, a stabbing in oakland. police now say that the man probably took his own life. officers were caused to international boulevard at 23rd after 5:00 a.m. they found a man with head injuries

and multiple stab wounds and died at the hospital. his name has not been released. >> a prayer service after the weekend shooting of a college athlete shot on saturday morning. investigators think the shooter mistook the student for a gang member. so far, there are no arrests in the case. the family says he was a star athlete and an honor student at archbishop riordan high school before playing football at lewis and clark in portland. there is a prayer service at the shooting scene. >> chevron says they have completed repairs to the richmond refinery after the big fire last year that broke out in august, damaging the unit for full operation of the refinery. chevron tells "contra costa times" it is waiting approval to

restart the cute oil processing unit. the board of chevron is cutting the pay for the chief executive because of what they call "operating incidents" last year. >> caltran will reinspect hundreds of parts of the bay bridge on the east span, and the company behind the steel rods that bloke. dyson corporation made or supplied the bolts that went into construction of the new $6.5 billion span. last week, caltran disclosed a third of the rods snapped when workers tightened them in place. >> rebound will spend a couple of days in the bay area fundraising for the democratic party. he appeared at joint base andrews in maryland. the next stop is denver around 12:40 our time where some will hold a news conference to protester gun control measures. president obama wants to draw attention to colorado's tough new gun laws in the wake of the movie theater massacre last

summer. abc7 news reporter katie marzullo joins us in san francisco right now where the president will be today. katie? >> this is as close as we can get but you can see the top of the hotel a few blocks away. police are already on the ground, blocking off parking along howard in front of the hotel, passerbys are curious, and some are planning a protest while others are excited. san francisco police officers are standing by. this is where president obama will spend the night. for some, it is a great opportunity. >> it is very excited. it is not inconvenience to have the street blocked off. people can get by and take care of business. it is exciting. it is an honor to have the president near. >> president obama is here to raise money. he has two events to attend tonight, a $5,000 cocktail reception in pacific heights and $32,500 plate dinner.

>> an actist group will protester the pricey dinner and want president obama to reject the keystone pipeline that brings oil from canada to the gulf of mexico. they are bringing a thousand people and some noise. we are raising our voices with a brass band that will be there and we will make noise to make sure he knows, the motorcade sees us, and he gets the message that the people that voted for him want him to reject there pipeline and stand on the right side of history. >> the money the president raises on the trip will go to house and senate candidates for the midterm elections. the president has two more events tomorrow in atherton. >> happening now in connecticut, lawmakers are ready to vote on historic gun control package in response to the sandy hook elementary school massacre. the connecticut legislature is debating the gun control bill right now. it contains what are being called the toughest gun laws in the nation. the governor says he will sign the bill if it gets through the legislature.

recalling two million vehicles to fix airbags and brake light switches. safety regulators say a faulty switch can stop the lights from lighting and cruise control may not turn off when a driver steps on the brake light. the recall involves santa fe and tuscon and the optima and sportage from the 2007 through 2011 model years and they will notify owners and replace the switches for free starting in june. hyundai is recalling the 2011 through 2013elantra because a bracket can come loose. >> apple fans, if you are looking for a new tv you may not have to wait longer, an analysts says he has learned from suppliers apple is on track to launch a new tv set by the end of the year. the biggest tv is 60" with

sunnyvale at 72 to gilroy at 78. san jose tops out at 74 and same in mountain view, and san mateo at 66. the warm spots along the coast is half moon bay and south san francisco is mid-60's. and low 70's through the north bay valley and ten degrees cooler at the beaches plus 70 in oakland and san leandro and new york between the upper 60's to lower 70's. mid-70's through the east bay valleys and 76 in antioch and livermore and fairfield, the warmer spots. headed to the game we are off to 0-2 start with 160 games let. 62 at first patch -- pitch at 7:05. temperatures are mile because of the cloud cover and santa rosa and napa and morgan hill in the upper 40's but the cloud cover will bring low do mid-50's and rain. here is what is happening, the cold front to our west is advancing our way with high clouds and the high clouds will town into rain tomorrow morning.
